Anyone associated with this project is extremely fortunate. The channel was nothing before it, and would have withered into a pay to play wasteland like A&E’s WWE content and infomercials. That the show was able to gain an audience was a small miracle and largely because it was ahead of where the production quality and vibe was of the competition. Now it would barely register, and certainly not last. Imagine had the show started with the melodrama of looking for Sophia on the highway or hanging out at the Herschel’s farm or the prison for free tax credits for two seasons! Shame they didn’t keep Frank, and keep it edgy.

Why work when you can sue?
J
I just read this entire article and still have no idea why this guy is suing. Maybe make that more clear.

WRONG AMC you paid for manipulator. It’s AMCX not AMC. What you just did is illegal.

I worked for Frank at Castle Rock and enjoyed it. I worked for Jennifer Caserta at AMC and did not. I’m happy for the big D’s victory.
The info is nicely broke down by Patten, and therefore made clear. It seems somebody has to get it together at AMC. Powerful series they have, but to then lose that much money…ouch!

Good for Frank! Maybe now Hollywood can stop blacklisting and demonizing every writer and creator who sues to stand up for his or her rights!
Truth is, Hollywood accounting is nothing more than stealing. Period. Yet, if a creator says, “our contract states I am to get this or that”, than in the past the big companies would spend millions in years-long legal fights just to screw over the creator / writer, and then blacklist them. MAYBE, instead stop blacklisting… treat the talented writers with some GODDAM RESPECT.

You do realize that it was his agency– CAA– who bankrolled this lawsuit, on Darabont’s behalf as well as their own, because… wait for it… they were all being cheated since it was a CAA package.
Money on back end often goes to show creators precisely because big agencies have deep enough pockets to get money for themselves as well as the writer. Their interests are actually aligned. But now, you’re of course welcome to sue AMC or whomever yourself.
Idiots.

…that or a total stooge.

You are very misinformed. What actually happened is that AMC fired Frank before the 2nd season, as to keep him from getting profits from future seasons. Also, AMC then did deals where they licensed the show to themselves for pennies… instead of shopping it to someone for millions. Which of course made it so Frank would not see a dime. (Same as me selling myself a Rolls Royce for 2 dollars, and then telling the car supplier that I could only get 2 dollars for the car, so now PROFITS for the car supplier… i.e. Frank.)
See that’s why net profits is worth less than a ham sandwich. Only gross points keeps you from the Hollywood Accounting practices that have screwed over so many. And no one wants to give that, because the writer would actually get paid. But what do I know, I just spent 10 years in Federal Court, because for this type of shit and was repped by 2 of the big agencies.
Maryanne
Yep. You got it.

AMC could have settled this at the start of it for half the amount they paid to settle it today.
Jon
That’s true of pretty much any settlement, Hollywood or not.

FB is an awful person but I love nothing more than a network whose only success has come from outside dev on a whole 3 different series has to pay out that much money. A dollar for every stupid bakeoff they put writers through for nothing

Darabont is a sweetheart and genuine. And You Know This

C’mon, FB had nothing to do with this. Mark Zuckerberg is God.
Creative Exec.
What is the basis of your description of Frank Darabont? I have always known him to be a great guy, very creative and always civil. Stop with the social media character assassinations.
Sharing the goods……

Did you get your opinion from FX in turnaround?
What’s your beef with Frank?
What’s the beef, sir?
