You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder, SXSW Studio

YOU SING LOUD, I SING LOUDER

Section: Narrative Spotlight

Director: Emma Westenberg

Screenwriter: Ruby Caster

Logline: In an effort to reunite with his daughter after a period of absence, a father takes her on a road trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Along the way they encounter some interesting characters and obstacles while sorting out their relationship.

Panelists: Ewan McGregor, Clara McGregor, Emma Westenberg

Premiered: March 11, 2023

Key Quotes: Clara McGregor: “My dad and I had drifted apart a little bit and we had reconciled, which was really beautiful and I was inspired by us kind of finding each other again, in obviously a very different backdrop than this movie.”

Westenberg: “As artists, actors, filmmakers, storytellers, we are always pulling from our emotional bank, and I think that because they are a real father and daughter, they could just pull from a lot that was really close to them. So, it was really special to witness that and work with that together, and to really find the depth in the scenes and the humor in the painful moments.”

Ewan McGregor: “That was one of the things that impressed me the most when I read the script, was that it was humorous, like the humor in it is really rich, and it’s very real to me, I think. It felt very realistic, but it was cleverly threaded through the piece.”

The Deadline Studio at SXSW runs March 10-13, where the cast and creatives behind the best and buzziest titles in this year’s lineup sit down with Deadline’s festival team to discuss their movies and the paths they took to get to Austin, Texas.
