YELLOWJACKETS
Creators: Ashley Lyle & Bart Nickerson
Logline: Yellowjackets is the saga of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over. In season two, two months have passed since Shauna gave Jackie the cold shoulder— to disastrous results. In the face of their deepening hunger and fear, the tension among our Yellowjackets has only grown worse.
Panelists: Tawny Cypress, Sophie Nélisse, Samantha Hanratty, Kevin Alves, Steven Krueger, Courtney Eaton
Premiere: March 24, 2023, on Showtime
Key Quotes: Hanratty: “The first season was just a lot of chaos and even just the camera work, everything was really in your face where this season it’s very still. There’s this emptiness that visually is just gorgeous but also eerie and it’s resembling of what each of us are going through.”
Nélisse: “There’s more disagreement also between the group. First season we’re all kind of collaborating and moving forward as a group in every decision, and I think now with the weird cult situation Lottie’s got going on, not everyone’s a believer, so there’s a lot more fighting amongst us.”
“The writers took such an interesting take on [Jackie’s death]. I was expecting it to be the typical mourning period… I can’t reveal anything, but [Shauna] has a very twisted way of coping with what’s happened… she’s going through very complex emotions this season.”
The Deadline Studio at SXSW runs March 10-13, where the cast and creatives behind the best and buzziest titles in this year’s lineup sit down with Deadline’s festival team to discuss their movies and the paths they took to get to Austin, Texas.
