Saturday Night Live‘s “Lunch Run” skit on Saturday mixed a little Harry Styles, some references to the Popeyes chicken sandwich craze and a dash of Jordan Peele social commentary at the very end.
Guest Styles played a UK intern who offers to make lunch run for his colleagues (played by Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim, Melissa Villaseñor, Heidi Gardner and Chris Redd). He want to go to Popeyes because he’s heard so much about the famed chicken sandwich, and plans to buy out the entire supply for the office (that tactic has not worked out so well in real life at Popeyes restaurants, by the way).
Thompson’s, Nwodim’s and Redd’s characters think it’s a particularly bad idea, and become even more convinced when they find out 1) where it is, 2) that he’s going alone, 3) that he’ll just “go in and say, ‘Give me every chicken sandwich you have — I’m in hurry,’ ” and 4) that he’ll just “wear my big backpack and long coat” to bring his haul home.
“Sorry, I’m going,” Styles’ intern says. “I have to.”
