“The truth will set you free…but first it will piss you off,” says Julianne Moore as iconic feminist Gloria Steinem in the new trailer for Julie Taymor’s biopic The Glorias, about the legendary disruptor that helped lead the charge in activism and launched a revolutionary women’s movement that has impacted generations. Steinem’s work reverberates today and is timely more now than ever as the film drops on Amazon Prime Video and digital on September 30 — a perfect film to help bolster change and progress and encourage voting in the November election.
Based on Steinem’s book Life on the Road, director Taymor co-wrote the film with Sarah Ruhl, a nontraditional biopic that creates a complex tapestry of one of the most inspirational figures of modern history.
From her time in India to creating Ms. magazine to her role in the rise of the women’s rights movement in the 1960s to the historic 1977 National Women’s Conference, Moore, Alicia Vikander, Lulu Wilson and Ryan Keira Armstrong play Steinem in different stages of her journey to prominence.
The Glorias also includes a number of iconic women who made profound contributions to the women’s movement including Dorothy Pitman Hughes (Janelle Monáe), Flo Kennedy (Lorraine Toussaint), Bella Abzug (Bette Midler), Dolores Huerta (Monica Sanchez) and Wilma Mankiller (Kimberly Guerrero).
The film comes from LD Entertainment and Roadside Attractions. Check out the poster below and watch the trailer above to light that fire of social justice in you.
