The new trailer for Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen (fka Toff Guys) brings us back to the filmmaker’s trademark frenetic Cockney action-comedy sensibilities from the days of Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
With its fast cuts, grimy style, fast-paced humor, paperboy caps, dandy wardrobe and kinetic firepower, The Gentlemen follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever, it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him.
As seen in the trailer, The Gentlemen has a lot of star power with McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Charlie Hunnam as well as Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan and Colin Farrell. Ritchie gave us mass-appeal filmmaking with his recent pics Aladdin and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, but The Gentlemen harkens back to that bubble and squeak that made us fall in love with Ritchie in the first place.
STXfilms will release the film on January 24. Watch the trailer above and check out the poster below.
