The SXSW-bound Tetris movie starring Taron Egerton has gotten its first trailer as well as a streaming premiere date of March 31st on Apple TV+.
The film putting Egerton back in business with Apple, following his SAG Award-nominated turn in its crime drama series Black Bird developed by Dennis Lehane, tells the unbelievable story of how one of the world’s most popular video games found its way to avid players around the globe. Henk Rogers (Egerton) discovers Tetris in 1988, and then risks everything by traveling to the Soviet Union, where he joins forces with inventor Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov) to bring the game to the masses. Based on a true story, Tetris is billed as a Cold War–era thriller on steroids, with double-crossing villains, unlikely heroes, and a nail-biting race to the finish.
Jon S. Baird (Stan & Ollie) directed from a script by Noah Pink. Producers on the pic are Marv Films’ Matthew Vaughn, AI FIlm’s Leonard Blavatnik, Unigram’s Gregor Cameron, and Gillian Berrie.
Debuting tomorrow on Apple TV+ is the psychological thriller Sharper, starring Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan, which marks the feature directorial debut of Emmy-winning The Crown helmer, Benjamin Caron. Other upcoming features from the streamer include the Skydance and Apple-produced Dexter Fletcher pic Ghosted starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, the starry Matthew Vaughn spy film Argylle, and Martin Scorsese’s crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
