Disney and Pixar released the first Soul teaser this morning, giving us a look at exactly how stars Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey will be portrayed as beings of the hereafter.
Or a hereafter-like place where souls are refined before being sent off to human bodies. The teaser doesn’t quite say, but we do see the Foxx’s middle-school teacher Joe Gardner, in human animated form, take a big fall through a manhole and next we see him as a greenish-blue ghost.
That’s when he meets 22, a smaller ghosty thing voiced by Fey. Both ponder what the “want to be remembered for.”
Foxx’s Gardner apparently had plenty of regrets, even before the manhole. Pixar’s description of Soul, directed by Pete Docter and co-directed by Kemp Powers, describes Joe as “a middle-school band teacher whose true passion is playing jazz.” Fey’s 22 is “a soul who doesn’t think life on Earth is all it’s cracked up to be.”
Dana Murray produces, and Soul opens in theaters on June 19, 2020.
Check out the teaser above.
