The Film That Lit My Fuse is a Deadline video series that aims to provide an antidote to grim headlines about industry uncertainty by swinging the conversation back to the creative ambitions, formative influences and inspirations of some of today’s great screen artists.
Every installment asks the same five questions. Answering them today is the great director Robert Zemeckis, who won the Best Director Academy Award for Forrest Gump and who has directed such distinguished films as Cast Away, the Back To The Future films, Flight, Used Cars, What Lies Beneath, The Walk, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and performance capture films including The Polar Express, and Beowulf. Zemeckis just completed an adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel The Witches, with Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci and Chris Rock.
Here, he explains how a love of cinema made him into the innovative director he has been for decades.
