EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your first trailer for Red Elvis: The Cold War Cowboy, the documentary about American singer Dean Reed who found fame in the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
Premiering in the U.S. on January 20 on Curiosity Stream, and January 23rd on Sky in the UK, the film charts the forgotten story of the American singer who became a star in the East.
The Denver native didn’t find fame in the U.S. but moved to the Eastern Bloc where he sold out stadiums, was lauded by Nikita Khrushchev and inspired communist youth. His life came to a mysterious and sad end in 1986 weeks after a CBS 60 Minutes interview in which he defended the Soviet Union.
The film features interviews with Reed’s friends and family, access to previously sealed government documents, and new film and music.
