‘Recipe for Change: Standing Up To Antisemitism’ Clip: ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Michael Zegen Unpacks Trauma Inherited From Family’s World War II Hardships

Michael Zegen on ‘Recipe for Change: Standing Up to Antisemitism’

EXCLUSIVE: Deadline has the first clip from Recipe for Change: Standing Up to Antisemitism, which has The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Michael Zegen discussing his Jewish roots and the trauma he inherited from the hardships his family faced during World War II.

Standing Up to Antisemitism is an all-new installment of the series Recipe for Change, from YouTube and LeBron James’ The SpringHill Company, which debuted last year as a means to foster necessary conversations. Its newest edition celebrates the breadth of the Jewish experience, including food and culture, and discusses the recent and historic acts of hate and violence against the Jewish community, featuring conversations about how we can raise awareness and build allyship around Antisemitism. The most interesting and provocative conversations emerge around the dinner table as those from the Jewish community prove that when oppressed groups band together, the minority becomes a powerful majority, and tiny ripples of action can create tidal waves of change.

In the new episode, hosts Ilana Glazer, Moshe Kasher and Idina Menzel partner with esteemed chefs Nancy Silverton and Einat Admony, and culinary historian Michael Twitty to host dinner guests including Skylar Astin, Michael Ian Black, Rachel Bloom, Rabbi Sharon Brous, Tommy Dorfman, Alex Edelman, Hannah Einbinder, Jordan Firstman, Lori Gottlieb, Bryan Greenberg, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, Hari Nef, Josh Peck, Zac Posen, Ruth Reichl, Rachel Sumekh and Zegen. SNL alum Rachel Dratch also joins the episode as an on-the-street reporter, speaking with Jewish people and allies in New York City.

“A recent study stated that nearly two-thirds of young adults were unaware 6 million Jews died during the Holocaust,” Zegen told Deadline, “and that, for me, is a good reason to keep this conversation going forever.”

Recipe for Change: Standing Up to Antisemitism will premiere on April 14, exclusively on Jason Y. Lee’s Jubilee YouTube Channel. The first installment in the series, Stop Asian Hate, was YouTube’s response to the reprehensible acts of violence against the Asian and Pacific Islander community last year. The premiere special was a celebration of Asian culture, tradition, storytelling and allyship led by leaders in the API community including Simu Liu, Michelle Kwan, Hasan Minhaj, Olivia Munn, Jay Shetty, Lisa Ling, Tina Tchen, BD Wong, Amanda Nguyen and Ross Butler, among others.

LeBron James and Maverick Carter will continue to serve as executive producers on Recipe for Change with their media conglomerate The SpringHill Company. Showrunner Joel Relampagos will also executive produce alongside Jamal Henderson and Philip Byron of The SpringHill Company, with SpringHill’s Camille Maratchi and Courtney Whitaker co-executive producing. Nadine Zylstra serves as Global Head of YouTube Originals, with Creative Executives Laurel Stier and Lauren Vrazilek overseeing Recipe For Change: Standing Up to Antisemitism for the company.
