‘Paint’ Teaser: Owen Wilson Does His Best Bob Ross In IFC Films Comedy

Owen Wilson in 'Paint'

IFC Films has unveiled the first teaser for Paint, its film written and directed by Brit McAdams, which has Owen Wilson channeling the appearance and spirit of American treasure, Bob Ross. The film, based on the 2010 Blacklist screenplay, hits theaters nationwide on April 7.

Wilson stars in Paint as Carl Nargle, Vermont’s No. 1 public television painter who is convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke… until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.

Pic’s cast also includes Michaela Watkins (You Hurt My Feelings), Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs), Ciara Renée (Your Honor), Lusia Strus (Search Party), Stephen Root (Barry) and newcomer Lucy Freyer.

Silver Lining Entertainment’s Sam Maydew produced alongside Peter Brant, with Wilson, Richard J. Bosner and Joel David Moore serving as exec producers.

Paint‘s competitors on its opening weekend at the box office include Screen Gems’ horror-thriller The Pope’s Exorcist led by Russell Crowe, Universal’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Saim Sadiq’s Joyland, which recently became the first Pakistani film to be shortlisted for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar, and will unspool stateside via Oscilloscope.

Upcoming releases for IFC Films ahead of Paint‘s debut in theaters include the Jena Malone-led horror-thriller Consecration, out this Friday; the Tribeca prize-winning comedy God’s Time, arriving on February 24; and Stephen Frears’ dramedy The Lost King starring Sally Hawkins, which bows on March 24.
