‘News Of The World’ Trailer: Tom Hanks And Paul Greengrass Meet Again In The Wild West

News Of The World

Universal has released the first trailer for News of the World, the film that reunites Tom Hanks and Paul Greengrass for the first time since 2013’s Best Picture Oscar nominees Captain Phillips. The pic is scheduled for a December 25 theatrical release.

Set five years after the end of the Civil War, Hanks’ Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, a veteran of three wars, moves from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller, a kind of frontier Walter Cronkite. In Texas, he finds Johanna (Helena Zengel), a 10-year-old taken in by the Kiowa people six years earlier and raised as one of their own. Kidd agrees to deliver her back to her family, and the pair trek hundreds of miles into the wilderness in the search for home.

Luke Davies (Lion) adapted the screenplay from the bestselling novel by Paulette Jiles. Gary Goetzman, Gail Mutrux and Gregory Goodman are producers, and Steven Shareshian and Tore Schmidt executive produced.
