EXCLUSIVE: With her award-winning documentary My Name Is Pedro, Lillian LaSalle puts a timely spotlight on public education through the lens of the titular Pedro Santana.
The film can be summed up in one quote said by Santana in the trailer: “I want to have an impact on people’s lives.”
The South Bronx Latino educator is considered a maverick when it comes to education as he actualizes learning and positive change in children, adults, environments and communities through an “impact” ripple effect strategy that he has effortlessly perfected. My Name Is Pedro stresses the importance of great educators that exist within the infrastructure of our country’s public education system. The film features appearances from Rosie Perez, Aasif Mandvi as well as Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter.
My Name Is Pedro is set to open virtually in New York at The Maysles Cinema on September 17 and in Los Angeles at the Laemmle on October 2. Other cities will follow.
