EXCLUSIVE: Deadline can share the first official trailer for Mother May I?, a new horror flick from writer-director Laurence Vannicelli starring Kyle Gallner (Smile) and Holland Roden (Teen Wolf).
The film is set to have its market premiere at this year’s EFM. MPI Media Group is handling international sales.
The pic follows Emmett (Gallner), who wants to sell his recently deceased mother’s house. However, lingering memories of childhood abuse soon emerge when he and his fiancee Anya (Roden), spend a night in the property.
Anya wants to force Emmett to deal with his trauma and shape him into the partner she needs. She convinces him to take mushrooms to get him to let go. But something strange happens while they’re tripping: She starts behaving like his mother. The next morning, he wakes up sober, but she still won’t drop the act. Anya loves playing games — is this her taking it too far? Or did his mother’s spirit somehow possess her? The cast also includes Chris Mulkey (Twin Peaks).
The film is being released theatrically in the US this summer by Dark Sky Films.
Producers include Dane Eckerle, Daniel Brandt, and Daisy Long. Holland Roden is also a producer on the film along with Cole Eckerle. Executive producers are Sam Slater, Paul Bernon, and Phil Keefe of Burn Later Productions, as well as Raj Trivedi and Alex Whitney.
