Jesse Eisenberg and Adrien Brody touch down at the Berlin Film Festival this weekend for the world premiere of John Trengove’s drama Manodrome exploring the contemporary crisis of masculinity.
Deadline can reveal the first teaser.
Eisenberg stars as a financially insecure young man, who is conflicted about the pregnancy of his girlfriend as he struggles to find his place in society.
His life spirals out of control when he meets a mysterious family of men led by a charismatic father figure played by Brody.
Odessa Young (The Staircase, Mothering Sunday, Shirley) plays the girlfriend with other key cast members including Sallieu Sesay, Philip Ettinger, Evan Jonigkeit and Ethan Suplee.
Manodrome is South African director Trengove’s second feature after his award-winning debut The Wound, which also world premiered in Berlin.
The drama revolved around a closeted relationship that unfolds against the backdrop of a Xhosa initiation ceremony. In spite of some controversy at home, the film went on to be South Africa’s best international film submission and got as far as the shortlist stage.
Producers on Manodrome are Ben Giladi at Liminal Content with Gina Gammell, Riley Keough and Ryan Zacarias at Felix Culpa in association with Riverside Entertainment.
CAA Media Finance handles world sales.
