As Rebecca Pearson, the matriarch on NBC’s mega-hit series This Is Us, Mandy Moore was Golden Globe-nominated for its first season and part of the SAG Award-winning ensemble cast. She is being heavily Emmy-buzzed this season for the role that sees her spanning both generations of the family — often in older-age makeup as she moves back and forth 30 years through the life of this wife, mother and widow.

Episodes in which she dealt with the death of her husband Jack (played by Milo Ventimiglia) as well as a moving eulogy she delivered are adding to the belief she really came into her own during the series’ second season.

Moore came by the studio recently to tape the latest edition of my Deadline video series The Actor’s Side to talk about the success of This Is Us. She also discusses her music career, which started at age 15 when she was in the ninth grade and opening for acts like NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, her roles in Tangled as Rapunzel, and many other movies including her favorite A Walk to Remember.

She also drops some hints about where she might be headed in Season 3 of This Is Us, and that she hopes she looks as good in her 60s as Rebecca does in This Is Us.
