Lifetime has unveiled the first look at its chilling original movie on the NXIVM sex cult. The trailer for Escaping the NXIVM Cult: A Mother’s Fight to Save Her Daughter shows seduction, anguish, and actress Sara Fletcher looking eerily similar to convicted NXIVM member and Smallville alum, Allison Mack.
The TV movie is based on actress Catherine Oxenberg’s memoir, Captive, about her fight to free her daughter India from the cult, and shows how women were coerced into sex slavery.
Peter Facinelli plays cult leader Keith Raniere in the movie, which is part of Lifetime’s upcoming “Ripped From the Headlines” slate.

Raniere was convicted in June 2019 of sex trafficking, forced labor conspiracy, human trafficking and racketeering. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on September 25.
Mack pleaded guilty in April to racketeering and racketeering conspiracy charges after federal prosecutors accused her of helping Raniere lure women into NXIVM, by claiming the cult was a female mentorship group. Mack originally pleaded not guilty but changed her plea.
Escaping the NXIVM Cult: A Mother’s Fight to Save Her Daughter airs September 21 at 8 p.m on Lifetime.
The movie will be followed by a companion doc titled Beyond the Headlines: Escaping the NXIVM Cult with Gretchen Carlson at 10 pm., that shows the journalist investigating the cult that targeted young women. The doc will also include a first-hand account from Oxenberg.
