Celebrities stuck in lockdown continue to find creative ways to provide some entertainment for people cooped up at home. A Quiet Place star John Krasinski is the latest to try his hand at a little light-hearted fun, posting the first edition of his new ‘Some Good News’ YouTube series.
Recording in front of a colourful ‘SGN’ sign – “my daughter’s made it,” he told debut guest Steve Carell – Krasinski informed viewers he was attempting to inject optimism into the current climate with a show dedicated entirely to positive news stories. Let’s face it, this news cycle is punishing for journalists and readers alike.
“For years now I have been wondering, ‘Why is there not a news show dedicated entirely to good news?’ Desperately seeking my fix I reached out to all of you this week begging for some good news, boy did you deliver,” said Krasinski.
The 15-minute episode covered the amazing work being done by healthcare workers, and the heartfelt appreciation that has been displayed for their endeavors, and many more stories of kindness from around the world.
Krasinski also noted that this week marks 15 years since the U.S. version of The Office, in which he broke out, first aired. To celebrate the landmark, he invited Steve Carell on for a virtual chat.
“I was a waiter when I got that job [as Jim Halpert on The Office], after the pilot I went back to waiting tables because I was sure nothing was going to happen with it,” Krasinki recalled.
“It’s such a happy surprise that after all these years people are still tuning in,” Carell added. “Part of what was so much fun about it is that everybody in the cast was rooting for everybody else, people would step back when it was time for other people to shine, and celebrate it.”
The pair reminisced over their favourite memories from the show, including the famous dinner party episode where Carell’s character Michael Scott invests in a plasma TV, and the time that Krasinski’s character comes into the office dressed as fellow employee Dwight Schrute.
Krasinki also video linked with Coco, a young girl who recently returned home after her last chemotherapy treatment. Coco thanked her nurses and doctors and gave a message to the audience reminding people to stay home to protect vulnerable people including those with weak immune systems.
No word yet on when the next episode might be, but Krasinski did put “we might just do this again” in the sign-off.
