Emmys: It’s Deadline Vs. Gold Derby In A Prediction Smackdown In The Lead Comedy Acting Categories – Who Takes The Prize?

Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil and I go at it again in a new series of Emmy prediction smackdowns beginning today with the contenders for Comedy Lead Actor and Actress.

As we discuss in the video (click the link above to watch) the race for Comedy Lead Actress is going to hit some new ground this year as Veep took the year off so six time in a row winner Julia Louis Dreyfus won’t be a factor this time around. What does that mean?  O’Neil and I disagree on that, as Tom seems convinced that Black’ish star Tracee Ellis Ross may squeak it out over heavily favored first-timer Rachel Brosnahan for the first season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  But could an Oscar win give Allison Janney added momentum in her quest to take a Lead Comedy Actress Emmy for Mom to go with her previous two for that series in supporting? Or how about Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda for Grace And Frankie, or Debra Messing in the Will And Grace reboot?  Anything’s possible and we talk about all those possibilities and more.  On the Lead Actor Comedy side it looks tough to beat reigning champ Donald Glover of Atlanta,  but Anthony Anderson , William H. Macy , Eric McCormick, Larry David, Bill Hader, and Ted Danson among others are going to try. Check out our lively conversation above.
