Emmys: Last Chance To Vote As Ballots Due Tonight – Watch The Latest Deadline Vs. Gold Derby Prediction Throwdown On Drama Series Acting Races

Emmys: Last Chance Vote Ballots Due

Emmy voters have just a few hours left to cast their nomination ballots online before the deadline at 10 pm PT tonight. After that we just have to wait until July 12 to find out who’s in the running for TV’s top prize.

But Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil and I have a few ideas of just whose names will be called when nominations are announced at the Television Academy’s Wolf Theatre in North Hollywood.  In fact in case you are a straggler member of the Actors branch who has waited until the last minute to cast a ballot and need some helpyou can check out our latest video predictions throwdown. Today we tackle the highly competitive acting races in the Drama series categories and come up with some strong contenders, although as usual we don’t exactly (ahem)  agree.  For lead actress will it be Handmaid’s Tale’s Elisabeth Moss for a second straight year , or can The Crown’s Claire Foy steal it as she exits her series and gives voters one last chance?  The same is true for Keri Russell who has gone Emmy-less the entire run of The Americans. We talk about the history of last chance Emmys and what it means in this race for this year. Of course there are plenty of others with a shot at the gold, notably Sandra Oh, Laura Linney, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Evan Rachel Wood and so on.

On the Lead Actor side  there is also the strong possibility of a repeat winner from last year with favored Sterling K. Brown of This Is Us , but like Russell this is also voters’ last shot at giving to gold to Matthew Rhys of The Americans, and it is the first shot to recognize Freddie Highmore who is so good in The Good Doctor after being snubbed by Emmy for all five seasons of Bates Motel.  Will going from bad Norman Bates to being a good doctor do the trick? Don’t also forget Brown has direct competition from a co-star , Milo Ventimiglia  who lost to him last year but gets to die on This Is Us this year, always a magnet for awards attention.  Jeffrey Wright, Liev Schreiber, Jason Bateman , J.K. Simmons doing double duty — they are among others who all could make the list.  We also survey the Supporting Drama categories as well. To watch , just click on the link above.
