Here’s a fun first teaser trailer for Working Title and Focus Features’ update of Jane Austen’s classic novel Emma.
The social satire and comedy of manners follows the handsome, clever, and rich Emma Woodhouse, a restless queen bee without rivals in her sleepy little English town who adventures through misguided matches and romantic missteps. Pic opens stateside on February 21, 2020.
Starring are Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role alongside Johnny Flynn, Bill Nighy, Mia Goth, Miranda Hart, Josh O’Connor, Callum Turner, Rupert Graves, Gemma Whelan, Amber Anderson, Tanya Reynolds and Connor Swindells.
Autumn de Wilde directs from a script by Eleanor Catton. Producers are Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Blueprint Pictures’ Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin.
Previous adaptations of the story include the 1996 film with Gwyneth Paltrow and loose 1995 adaptation Clueless. Austen’s novel has proven rich source material for TV, including UK versions with Kate Beckinsale and more recently Romola Garai.
