‘Easter Sunday’ Trailer: Jo Koy Prepares For Family Holiday Madness With Tiffany Haddish, Jimmy O. Yang & More

Jo Koy in Easter Sunday

Easter already passed for the year, but Jo Koy’s bringing the chaos of family drama to the summer with Easter Sunday, set to premiere on August 5.

On Thursday, Universal revealed the first trailer for Easter Sunday. The clip – featuring quintessentially Filipino karaoke sessions, balikbayan boxes and family drama – introduces Koy’s Josep, an established actor who takes a trip with his son (Brandon Wardell) up to the Bay Area for a family Easter celebration.

“Easter Sunday is like the Filipino Super Bowl,” Koy’s character touts.

But when the father and son arrive, a feud between Josep’s mother and his Tita Theresa unfolds ahead of the annual holiday celebration. Josep seeks to keep family together, even despite unprecedented family antics.

“Moments like these are few and far between. Let’s enjoy it,” he says.

Easter Sunday, a love letter to the Filipino-American community and inspired by Koy’s life experiences, also features Jimmy O. Yang, Tia Carrere, Brandon Wardell, Tony nominee Eva Noblezada, Lydia Gaston, Asif Ali, Rodney To, Eugene Cordero, Jay Chandrasekhar, Tiffany Haddish and Lou Diamond Phillips.

Chandrasekhar directs from a script by Ken Cheng. The film is produced by Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, and is executive produced by Koy, Jessica Gao, Yang, Cheng, Joe Meloche, Nick Reynolds and Seth William Meier. Amblin Partners and Universal have overseas rights.
