The Film That Lit My Fuse: ‘The Suicide Squad’ & ‘The Dark Knight’ Producer Charles Roven

Charles Roven

The Film That Lit My Fuse is a Deadline video series that aims to provide an antidote to headlines about industry uncertainty by swinging the conversation back to the creative ambitions, formative influences, and inspirations of some of today’s great screen artists.

Every installment asks the same five questions. Today’s subject is Charles Roven, the Oscar-nominated Atlas Entertainment founder and producer of big scale director-driven films that include the DC Universe blockbusters such as The Christopher Nolan-directed The Dark Knight Trilogy, the Patty Jenkins-helmed Wonder Woman franchise, the Zack Snyder-directed Justice League, the David O Russell-directed American Hustle, the Terry Gilliam-directed Twelve Monkeys, and many more. Roven-produced films have globally grossed a collective $9.5 billion, putting him among the top ten highest-grossing producers of all time.

Roven’s latest The Suicide Squad, which continues the anti-hero storyline under the direction of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, and features a collection of the righteous villains played by Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Sylvester Stallone, Taika Waititi, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman and Michael Rooker. It opens August 6.
