EXCLUSIVE: German series Babylon Berlin has cracked the 100-territory mark for distributor Beta Film, with latest deals including Africa’s biggest subscription TV network M-Net and China’s Lemon Tree.
Ahead of Mipcom, where Beta will continue sales efforts, we can reveal the first look at footage from the third season of the show.
Kicking off in fall 1929, during the tumultuous weeks before Black Friday’s stock market crash, the latest series sees inspector Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch) and Charlotte Ritter (Liv-Lisa Fries) assigned to investigate the violent on-set death of an actress, only to realize that the film industry is as rotten as the underworld. In the meantime, the Black Reichswehr are regathering their forces for their next attempt to bring down democracy and use all the opportunities they can to provoke more clashes with the Communists.
Season three is in post-production and will premiere this winter in Germany on Sky and later ARD, with territories following in 2020 including North America and Australia (Netflix), Italy (Sky and Rai), France (Canal +), Spain (Movistar+) and UK (Sky).
Babylon Berlin is produced by Tom Tykwer’s X Filme Creative Pool in co-production with ARD Degeto, WDR, Sky and Beta Film.
