‘Ad Astra’ First Trailer: Brad Pitt Goes Orbital In Fox’s Space Mystery Movie Dated For September 20

Ad Astra

Fox has released a first trailer for Brad Pitt sci-fi Ad Astra, which is being released on September 20.

Director James Gray’s movie was previously scheduled to open May 24 and had been considered a Cannes potential but a heavy VFX workload precluded that. There’s still a healthy chance it blasts off at an autumn festival.

Ad Astra follows astronaut Roy McBride (Pitt) who travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Jamie Kennedy and Donald Sutherland co-star.

Regency Enterprises and Fox produced the movie with Bona Film Investment Company, which is handling China. Max Richter wrote the score and Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema was DoP.

The late September slot is well trodden path for smart, authored, drama hybrids such as Prisoners, Sicario, The Sisters Brothers and Colette.
