EXCLUSIVE: Deadline has the first teaser for A Lot of Nothing, a thriller starring Y’lan Noel (Insecure), Cleopatra Coleman (Dopesick), Shamier Anderson (John Wick: Chapter 4), Lex Scott Davis (Rebel) and Justin Hartley (This Is Us) that is making its world premiere in Narrative Feature Competition at the SXSW Film Festival on March 13.

Mo McRae’s feature directorial debut, from EP David Oyelowo, centers on James (Noel) and Vanessa (Coleman), who seem to be happily married, successful and comfortable in every way, but are are rocked to their core while watching the news one night when they see cell phone footage of their neighbor committing a crime. In a state of shock, and with opposing points of view about how to address the issue, they go on a highly combustible journey to ‘do something.’

McRae penned the script with Sarah Kelly Kaplan and produced alongside Inny Clemons, Zak Kristofek and Jason Tamasco, with Kim Hodgert, Oyelowo and Nina Soriano exec producing. Anna Notarides co-produced, with Matt Cassaro and Erich Hover serving as associate producers.

McRae is a filmmaker and actor known for turns in such series as Rebel, Almost Family, Big Little Lies, Empire, Murder in the First, Sons of Anarchy and Ray Donovan. He’s also previously appeared in films including American Skin and The First Purge, among others. He wrote, directed and produced the short Starkeisha, which debuts on Hulu today, and will also soon be seen in the anticipated second season of HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant.

A Lot of Nothing‘s first screening is set to take place in Austin, TX on the 13th at 3:45 CT. Check out the film’s teaser above.
