Redbox, Lionsgate Extend Partnership In Multi-Year Distribution Deal


Redbox and Lionsgate have signed a multi-year agreement to bring the distributor’s films to Redbox, which accounts for about 50.6% of physical home-video rentals, making it a leader in home entertainment. Redbox self-service kiosks sit in about 35,000 locations throughout the U.S., used by 35 million subscribers. The move comes just ahead of the debut of Mockingjay Part 1, the next film in The Hunger Games franchise, which is set for Thanksgiving week.

“We’re pleased to extend our long-standing partnership with Redbox,” said Lionsgate President of Home Entertainment Ron Schwartz in a statement. “We remain committed to expanding the choices and enriching the quality and excitement of the home entertainment experience for our consumers, and our Redbox relationship is an important part of this commitment.”

Redbox had almost 775 million rental transactions in 2013. Lionsgate currently has more than 30 television shows on over 20 different networks spanning its primetime production, distribution and syndication businesses, including Emmy winners Mad Men and Nurse Jackie, the comedy Anger Management, ABC’s Nashville, the syndicated talk show The Wendy Williams Show and the critically acclaimed Netflix original Orange is the New Black.

Besides the Hunger Games franchise, Lionsgate’s film stable includes the Divergent franchise, Now You See Me, John Wick, Warm Bodies, The Possession, Sinister, Roadside Attractions’ A Most Wanted Man, Lionsgate/Codeblack Films’ Addicted and Pantelion Films’ Instructions Not Included, the highest-grossing Spanish-language film ever released in the U.S. Lionsgate has a library of about 16,000 film and TV titles.
