Colin Callender has brought in All3Media executive Louise Pedersen as Managing Director of UK operations for his production company Playground Entertainment. Pedersen is being tasked with expanding Playground’s existing footprint in the UK and overseeing day-to-day activities in the country, reporting to Callender. With Pederson on board, Playground will open offices in London in early 2015.
Playground’s portfolio includes two upcoming British projects, a six-part miniseries adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall starring Mark Rylance, Damian Lewis, Claire Foy and Jonathan Pryce, set to debut on BBC and Masterpiece in early 2015; as well as the eight-part thriller The Missing for the BBC and Starz.
Pederson has spent the last decade as Managing Director at all3media international, overseeing its international distribution. Prior to that, she served as Director of International Sales for ITV. “Louise has a masterful understanding of the changing television landscape in Britain and around the world and has worked with some of the best drama producers in the UK,” Callender said.
Founded by former HBO Films president Callender in 2012, Playground is focused on producing drama for the screen and the stage by blending together US and UK talent from the worlds of theatre, film, and television.
On Broadway, Playground produced Nora Ephron’s Lucky Guy starring Tom Hanks, Harvey Fierstein’s Casa Valentina, the Tony Award-winning musical revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch starring Neil Patrick Harris; and the production of Macbeth at The Park Avenue Armory starring Kenneth Branagh.
