‘Hedwig’ Producer David Binder Attaches To London Stage Fest

David Binder, lead producer of the 2014 Tony-winning best musical revival Hedwig And The Angry Inch, has joined the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT) as Artistic Associate. He’ll develop international projects and collaborations from his New York base. Binder worked with LIFT this past summer to produce Deblozay, an immersive piece by the French company Rara Woulib inspired by Haitian funeral marches. The next LIFT is slated for June 2016.

486190723On Broadway this past season Binder also produced a revival of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice And Men starring Chris O’Dowd,  James Franco, Leighton Meester and Jim Norton. The production, which closed over the summer, was the first Broadway drama filmed for distribution by the National Theatre’s NT Live international presentations in movie theaters.

Binder began his association with the 33-year-old festival with De La Guarda in 1997. His TED talk “The Arts Festival Revolution” was cited by The Guardian as one of the best talks on theatre on the web.

“We’re thrilled that David will be joining the LIFT team as Artistic Associate,” LIFT artistic director Mark Ball said in a statement announcing the move. “David has a fantastic instinct for identifying ground-breaking international artists and an exceptional track record in producing extraordinary new projects and he’ll be an invaluable artistic colleague for us in the States.”
