Nick Frost To Topline ABC Comedy From Ben Karlin

In a competitive situation, ABC has bought The Finger, a single-camera comedy written by Ben benkarlinKarlin (Modern Family) and starring British writer-actor Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead). The project, from ABC Studios and 3 Arts, will have Frost star as Nick Ferguson aka The Finger, the world’s most famous jewel thief who wants to quit his life of crime, open up a humble sandwich shop and do right by his 9-year-old son — and all of that is really hard to do. Karlin will co-write the story with Frost and will executive produce with 3 Arts’ David Miner.

Frost made his American TV debut last season when he was cast as one of the leads of Fox’s comedy pilot Sober Companion in a major coup for the network. The actor, repped by UTA, Think Tank Management and UK’s Hamilton/Hodell, recently toplined Mr. Sloane, a drama series for Sky from Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Robert Weide. He next reunites with his Shaun Of The Dead co-star, long-time collaborator and friend Simon Pegg, on Phineas and Ferb’s Halloween special and is set for the upcoming Dr. Who Christmas special.

Karlin, repped by UTA and 3 Arts, spent seven years on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, serving  as executive producer on both The Daily Show and offshoot The Colbert Report, which he co-created. For the last three seasons, he worked on the ABC/20th TV hit Modern Family, most recently as co-executive producer, before returning to his overall deal at ABC Studios to focus on development. He has shared in a total of 11 Emmys, best variety show/writing awards for The Daily Show and best comedy series ones for Modern Family.
