Fox Nabs Legal Drama From Alexandra Cunningham & Film 44 As Put Pilot

Frequent collaborators Alexandra Cunningham and Film 44’s Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey are reuniting for another drama project, which has been set up at Fox with a put pilot commitment. 20th Century Fox TV is the studio.

Titled Expert Witness, the crime drama stems from the development deal Cunningham inked with 20th TV in June and falls under Film 44’s pact with the Fox network.

Kevin_J._HynesCunningham and Film 44 first worked together on the well regarded NBC remake of Prime Suspect, which Cunningham developed and executive produced alongside Berg and Aubrey. For Expert Witness, Cunningham has brought on board one of her staff writers on Prime Suspect, Kevin Hynes, who is a former lawyer. The two will co-write the story and Cunningham will write the teleplay for Expert Witness, an ensemble about an expert witness firm that helps solve high-profile, high-stakes cases.  These experts include an attorney, a jury consultant, a former cop turned ballistics and polygraph expert, a former FBI profiler turned criminal behaviorist and a forensic pathologist.  While experts in their specific fields, the characters are deficient in other areas, such as their personal relationships, and  they are all extremely opinionated, leading to lots of inter-office conflict. Cunningham, Berg and Aubrey executive produce, with Hynes co-executive producing.

Cunningham and Film 44 also worked together last season on Gone For Good, which Cunningham adapted from Harlan Coben’s best-selling thriller for NBC.

Cunningham made her mark on ABC’s Desperate Housewives, which she joined after the pilot, rising through the ranks to executive producer and one of the dramedy’s key writers. She serves as an executive producer on NBC’s upcoming drama Aquarius starring David Duchovny.

Under Film 44’s deal with Fox, the company also recently sold to the network a space race with a drama from writer Eli Attie, which has penalty attached to it. Cunningham and Film 44 are with WME; Hynes is with WME and attorney Lev Ginsburg.
