In a competitive situation, Bookclub, a half-hour comedy from former 90210 showrunners Patti Carr and Lara Olsen, Eva Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment and Universal TV, where the company has a first-look deal, has landed at ABC with script commitment plus penalty. Said to be in the vein of ensemble comedies Bridesmaids and The Hangover, Bookclub revolves around four female friends who escape the pressures and responsibilities of adult life by pretending to be in a book club. Carr and Olsen will write the script based on their original idea and will executive produce with UnbeliEVAble’s Longoria and Ben Spector. Bookclub reteams UnbeliEVAble with Carr and Olsen after developing together Tinseltown several seasons ago. It also reunites Carr and Olsen with ABC — they most recently served as co-executive producers on the network’s ensemble comedy Mixology.
This is the seventh sale for UnbeliEVAble this season, including Texas politics drama Pair Of Aces at ABC. The network also is developing a comedy with the Trophy Wife team of Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky as a potential starring vehicle for Longoria. All parties are repped by CAA. Longoria is also with Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
