Sarah T. Davies Named VP Production And Development At Discovery Family Channel

Sarah T. Davies has been named vice president, production and development at Discovery Family Channel — formerly The Hub —  which debuted October 13. Davies is responsible for executing programming strategies, through development and production, and also will contribute to strategic planning, network direction, and channel management. Davies will be based in Silver Spring, Maryland and will report to Tom Cosgrove, GM of the channel.

Most recently, Davies was vice president of production and factual development for Discovery Networks International, which spans Western Europe; the Nordics; Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific, reaching more than 220 countries and territories worldwide. In this role developing and producing specific content targeted to a global audience, she also served as the chief liaison between development and production for Discovery Channel in the United States and worked with her international counterparts to mine characters and content that resonated internationally.

Davies worked with the international production community to commission such series as How We Invented The World.  She also was involved in the ordering of Deadly Islands,  Breaking Magic, The Unexplained Files, and Bear Grylls: Escape From Hell, Most recently, she oversaw the survival series with comedic ties, Tethered, which made its debut in the U.S. and around the world this fall.

Davies joined Discovery in March 2011 from the BBC, where she led the development of all factual genres in BBC Wales for network TV. In this role, Davies developed the BAFTA Award-winning commission Between Life And Death for BBC One; Being Neil Armstrong for BBC 4; and Egypt: What Lies Beneath for BBC 1, among many other commissions across all BBC channels. She has more than 20 years of production experience and was trained at the BBC’s flagship current affairs series, Panorama. In her last year at the BBC, Davies was a part of the team that helped manage the extension of a joint programming venture with Discovery Communications.

Discovery Family Channel, formerly the Hub Network, continues to showcase Hasbro Studios and children’s content during the daytime, and program non-fiction shows designed to engage the entire family at night. Primetime programming draws from Discovery’s library in the natural history, adventure, animals and science genres.
