WB Announces Three ‘LEGO’ Movies & ‘Harry Potter’ Spin-Off Trilogy

After building over $468 million in global box office this year with The LEGO Movie, Warner Bros. has three more LEGO-branded films set to hit theaters in the next four years, Kevin Tsujihara announced today as part of WB’s super-sized shareholder announcement. In addition to investing in the LEGO brand and its massive DC slate, the studio is plotting three films based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them to be released in in 2016, 2018 and 2020.

The first LEGO pic to hit will be Ninjago, directed by Charlie Bean based on the ninja-themed LEGO line anchoring a hit TV animated Cartoon Network series of the same name. LEGO Movie producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee, plus LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are aboard to produce.

The LEGO Batman Movie will spin-off the popular LEGO Movie character voiced by Will Arnett into his own standalone film directed by LEGO Movie co-director Chris McKay, slated for 2017. The LEGO Movie 2 will follow in 2018.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them will be adapted into three films, with Harry Potter franchise helmer David Yates directing. Rowling makes her screenwriting debut and will produce with Heyman, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram.
