‘Sunday Night Football’ Ratings Down, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ & ‘Mulaney’ Up, ‘Once Upon A Time’ Falls – Rat Race

Even with a blowout game and ratings stumble last night, there is little doubt of NBC’s Sunday Night Football topping the Sunday Big 4 primetime results. The wild card is whether the Season 5 debut of AMC’s blockbuster The Walking Dead will take a bite out of that win or triumph over it. Then there’s the fact that NBC, CBS and Fox all had NFL games on that bled into primetime, and all their numbers are likely to change in the final ratings.

As things stand right now, the real winner of last night is Fox. The third week of the second season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2.1/6) saw the Andy Samberg-led comedy jump 31% from last week’s big non-football night drop. If Brooklyn Nine-Nine had a good Sunday, it’s lead-in The Simpsons (3.3/9) had a great night in preliminary ratings with a 65% surge over its October 5 broadcast. It should be noted that the long-running animated series came off of Fox’s The OT (5.8/18) at 7:30 PM from a live NFL game. With that said, newbie Mulaney (1.1/3) actually saw a 10% rise off its shaky start last week. Making that more noteworthy is that the freshman comedy came off a Family Guy encore (1.7/4) unlike an original of the Seth McFarlane show last week.

New York Giants v Philadelphia EaglesOn NBC, Sunday Night Football (6.0/16) featured a massive 27-0 win for the Philadelphia Eagles over the New York Giants. We’ve already detailed how that was a season low for SNF in metered-market results, but it wasn’t pretty in fast nationals either with a 13% tackle from the 6.9/25 that last week’s game eventually got in final numbers. NBC won the night with a 4.8/13 rating among adults 18-49 and 13.47 million viewers.

ABC was the only network not hit by the NFL in one way or another last night, but it took a bunch of blows anyway — even with all those Nielsen processing problems now being dealt with. The Season 25 debut of America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.2/4) was even with its last premiere on October 13, 2013. However the rest of the night was not so nice for ABC. In Week 3 of its latest Frozen-themed cycle, Once Upon A Time (2.6/7) lost its magic luster with a 21% drop from its October 5 show. Facing off against The Walking Dead in the 9 PM time slot, Resurrection (1.4/4) was down a hard 30% to hit a series low in preliminary numbers. Ending the night for ABC, Revenge was down 14% to match a series low in fast nationals.

As for CBS, well with an 18-minute push in Eastern and Central markets due to football, its numbers are all over the map as usual for a Sunday. That’ll change when the final time-zone-adjusted numbers come in later, but presently, 60 Minutes (1.3/4) is down 48% from last week’s inflated NFL numbers. The rest of the night saw Madam Secretary (1.5/4) slip 6%, The Good Wife (1.3/3) down 7%, and CSI (1.4/4) rise 8% from their October 5 episodes.
