‘Black Sails’ Renewed For Third Season On Starz

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht virtually assured a third-season pickup of its Michael Bay-produced pirate drama Black Sails at last summer’s TCA, and today the pay cable network made it official at New York Comic-Con, more than three months ahead of the series’ second-season premiere, set for January 24.

starz-1-logoBlack Sails is set 20 years before Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island and chronicles the tales of Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men, including young John Silver (Luke Arnold). Hannah New, Tadgh Murphy, and Zach McGowan also star. Season 1 debuted to 2.6 million Live+Same Day viewers during its opening weekend in January, setting a viewership record for a Starz original series. Jonathan Steinberg and Robert Levine are the creators and executive producers, with Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form also EPs.

“The incredible world that Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine have created continues to unfold in Season 2,” said Carmi Zlotnik, managing director of Starz. “Flint’s journey is riveting, and around him, Jon and Robert have woven an intricate web of conflict, betrayal, and redemption for the other characters that we believe will keep fans of the show coming back for more.”
