‘Bad Judge’ Ratings Hold In Week 2, ‘Gracepoint’ & ‘A To Z’ Slide – Rat Race

One more new series entered the danger zone last night, dropping under one rating point among adults 18-49 in its second week. That was Fox drama Gracepoint, down 25% from its series premiere last week to a 0.9 in 18-49 despite a steady lead-in from Bones (1.5). It joins ABC comedy Manhattan Love Story and another Fox drama, Red Band Society, which both also hit the same mark this week in their second and fourth outing, respectively. Doing only a smidgen better was A To Z (1.0/3), down -17% from last week’s premiere.

Fox and NBC continue to struggle against football on CBS and ABC’s Shondaland lineup. The highest-rated series on the two networks was veteran Bones on Fox (1.5, even with last week). At NBC, leading the pack were newbie Bad Judge and departing Parenthood with 1.3, both on par with last week. It was an encouraging Week 2 hold for Bad Judge, which also built on its lead-in this time as The Biggest Loser (1.2) dipped a tenth from last week. Bad Judge slid a bit in total viewers but again was the most-watched Thursday program on NBC with 5.2 million viewers.

ABC’s dramas slipped a notch but continued to be the dominant non-sports performer on Thursday. Nielsen finally admitted this morning that there was a glitch in its ratings reporting. ABC’s fast nationals have been very unreliable this fall, always adjusted up in the finals. We will see later today if the fix is in place. Until then, I will again compare fast nationals to fast nationals. Grey’s Anatomy (2.4) was down 8%, Scandal (3.0) was down 9% while newbie How To Get Away With Murder (3.1), just picked up for a full 15-episode season, was down a tenth (-3%). It is the highest-rated 10 PM drama this fall.

The CW’s Vampire Diaries (0.7) was down 22% from its season premiere last week while Reign (0.4) was flat.

CBS’ NFL coverage was down from last week but is again projected to win the night for the network.
