ABC has put in development Pariahs, a legal drama project from The Mark Gordon Co. and ABC Studios, where the company is based. Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard (The Game Plan) will write the script and will executive produce alongside Mark Gordon Co.’s Gordon and Nick Pepper. Pariahs centers on two infamous “pariahs” who are out of options and forced to team up to practice law. One is a former football phenomenon who became a jailhouse lawyer after he was wrongfully convicted of murdering his girlfriend. The other is a Yale Law graduate whose bright future went up in flames when her sex tape with a Supreme Court nominee leaked. Together, they represent the outcasts that society has already condemned.
Price and Millard also teamed with the Mark Gordon Co. last development season for a drama about two female detectives in San Francisco that also landed at ABC. For Price and Millard, this marks the third consecutive sale at ABC — they also had legal drama Grievances, through Neal Moritz’s Original Film and Sony TV in development at the network during the 2012-13 season.
Pariahs marks the latest sale for The Mark Gordon Co., joining detective drama Las Reinas from Dean Georgias and Quantico, from Josh Safran, both at ABC. Price and Millard most recently penned the Scott Hicks-directed feature Fallen, based on the YA book series from author Lauren Kate, which is currently in post-production. They are repped by Paradigm and Jackoway, Tyerman.
