Cosmopolitan To Produce NBC Women’s Magazine Comedy From Leslye Headland

The Bachelorette writer-director Leslye Headland will write a single-camera comedy for NBC, in which a failed political blogger restarts her life in NYC as the “sex” editor for a prestigious and provocative women’s magazine. The project counts Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan, and Ruben Fleischer among its executive producers. “Cosmo was a must read for me growing up,” Headland said. “Under Joanna’s influence, the magazine embodies topics for every modern female, which makes this a perfect union.”

The comedy, from Universal Television, the District and Cosmopolitan, also is executive produced by Headland, David Bernad and Joanna Coles, with Holly Whidden serving as co-producer.

Coles said that Headland has been “quietly embedding at Cosmo” as part of her research for the project and even attended New York Fashion Week. “Be prepared for life at a women’s magazine, but not as you know it,” she said.

Next up for Headland is Sleeping With Other People, a romantic-comedy feature she wrote and directed that stars Jason Sudeikis, Alison Brie, Adam Scott, Amanda Peet, Natasha Lyonne and Jason Mantzoukas. She is repped by CAA, Caliber Media and attorney Steve Younger. Fleischer and Bernad are repped by UTA and Sloane Offer; Coles is with WME.
