‘Thrill Ride’ Set At Fox; ‘Neighbors’ Scribe To Direct
EXCLUSIVE: Fox has bought Thrill Ride, an original idea by Neighbors scribes Andrew Jay Cohen & Brendan O’Brien, which Cohen will direct. The script will be written by Peter Warren and Chernin Entertainment will produce with Cohen & O’Brien. This is a comedy-horror in the vein of This Is The End and Scream. It takes place at a particularly cruel high school where bullying has become the norm. At Senior Night, the school rents out an amusement park for the entire senior class where everyone rides the rides and plays the games as much as they want with no lines and no rules. The only drawback: students start dying on the rides in elaborate ways. All the exits are sealed, and there is a killer on the loose turning all the rides into ways of punishing the bullies and the so called bad people at school. Kids from all different cliques have to band together to figure out who the killer is and how to stop them.
Duo is hot off the success of Neighbors, which they wrote and exec produced and which grossed $150 million domestically. They are separately teamed with Fox and Chernin Entertainment on Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates, which they are writing and exec producing, with Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready producing and Jake Szymanski directing. As for the scribe, Warren was a staff writer for MTV’s Happyland.
Cohen and O’Brien are repped by CAA and Brian Lutz at Manage-ment. Warren is repped by CAA and Dan Halsted and Nathan Miller at Manage-ment.
