‘Walking Dead’ Renewed For Season 6 By AMC

The Walking Dead Season 5_edited-1AMC said today it has renewed its record-breaking hit The Walking Dead for a sixth season. The news comes as Season 5 of the zombie apocalypse drama premieres this Sunday at 9 PM ET/PT. Scott Gimple will return as the series’ showrunner/executive producer for Season 6 along with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse.

The AMC series has been the No. 1 show on TV in adults 18-49 for the past two years and continues to break its own viewership records. Season 4 wrapped in March drawing 15.7 million viewers, up from the 12.4 million who watched the then-record-breaking Season 3 finale. The Season 4 premiere broke cable viewership records with 16.1 million viewers and 10.4 million adults 18-49, and for the season Walking Dead averaged 13.3 million total viewers and 8.6 million adults 18-49, up 24% and 22%, respectively, over Season 3.

AMC recently ordered a pilot for a potential companion series based on a new story and new characters from Kirkman.
