Universal Shakes Up Home Entertainment Unit Centralizing Global Leadership In L.A.

Big changes at Universal Pictures Home Entertainment today as it continues to adjust to the growing importance of overseas markets: As you may have noticed, the name has been changed (it was Universal Studios Home Entertainment). And the Comcast-owned company says it will centralize its global leadership in Los Angeles under Eddie Cunningham. He had run the international operation from London until February when he was named president of Universal’s worldwide home entertainment business, under Chief Distribution Officer Peter Levinsohn, and moved to LA.

“Creating a global headquarters is an important step toward making our business even more competitive in the marketplace,” Cunningham says.

He established separate operations for the U.S. and for Canada. John Morici, who was USHE’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, will be EVP and Regional Managing Director for both. John Melluso, formerly Sales VP, will become Managing Director of the Canadian company and report to Morici.

Michael Bonner, who oversees domestic digital distribution, will continue to do so as an EVP reporting to Levinsohn.

Moving from Universal Pictures International Entertainment to UPHE are EVP of Business Affairs & Business Operations Melanie Laithwaite,  EVP of Operations Paul Chesney, EVP of Global Parners & Sales John Revill, and EVP and Managing Director of A&T Helen Parker. Moving from USHE to UPHE are VP of Marketing Hilary Hoffman and EVP of Universal 1440 Entertainment Glenn Ross.

Regional Managing Directors who will report Cunningham include Ian Foster (UK and Japan), Pauline Grimaldi d’Esdra, (France), and Dirk Lisowsky (Germany/Austria/Switzerland). In addition, Managing Director, Australia Jim Batchelor will keep that job at the joint venture with Sony, and report to Cunningham.
