Carol Mendelsohn Drama Starring Felicity Huffman Eyes ABC Put Pilot Commitment

A drama written by CSI maven Carol Mendelsohn, directed by Michael Dinner and starring Felicity Huffman is close to landing at ABC with a put pilot commitment. The project, produced by Rachel Winter (Dallas Buyers Club), hails from Sony Pictures TV and Mendelsohn’s studio-based Carol Mendelsohn Prods.

michaeldinner1rachelwinterThe untitled drama is about a special agent (Huffman) who is the fearless leader of a team of young agents on the New York City Joint Terrorism Task Force. A self-proclaimed sexual omnivore but true romantic at heart, she relies on her innate intuition, wry sense of humor and unbelievable ability to draw connections between disconnected bits of information that come across her desk. Armed with intelligence of immediate threats from law enforcement agencies around the city and governments throughout the world, she and her team must confront and neutralize dangerous situations before they escalate.

Mendelsohn, Huffman, Dinner and Winter executive produce with Madhouse’s Robyn Meisinger and Adam Kolbrenner as well as Carol Mendelsohn Prods.’ Julie Weitz. Dinner’s producing partner, Kate DiMento serves as a producer.

The project stems from Huffman and Winter’s friendship, which goes back some 10 years. They previously developed another TV script together, and Hoffman starred in the indie Stealing Cars, which Winter produced. They were looking for another project to do together when Winter shared with Huffman an idea she had been mulling over about a woman leading a terrorist-threat response team. The two teamed to develop the concept, setting up the project at Sony TV, where they partnered with studio-based A-list auspices Mendelsohn and Dinner.

CAA-repped Huffman stars in ABC’s upcoming John Ridley drama series American Crime. The project is envisioned as an anthology drama, with a different case and different cast every season, so Huffman is only attached to the first season.

This marks Mendelsohn’s second big sale in her first development season at Sony TV. Drama Game Of Silence, based on a Turkish format with David Hudgins writing, has a pilot production commitment at NBC.

WME-repped Mendelsohn, who moved to Sony TV after 14 years at CBS TV Studios, continues as executive producer on CSI, which she ran for 14 seasons, and on its latest offshoot, CSI: Cyber, which she co-created, along with the other two CSI spinoffs, Miami and New York.

Winter, repped by CAA and Bob Getman, and author Anne Rice recently sold to Televisa a one-hour drama series based on Rice’s erotic “The Sleeping Beauty” novel series. On the film side, she is set to produce the untitled LeBron James biopic. Dinner also is with CAA.
