‘The Bridge’s Diane Kruger Sets Indies ‘Maryland’ & ‘Sky’

EXCLUSIVE: With her FX series The Bridge wrapping its second season tonight, Diane Kruger has set two indie features to fill her winter schedule. German-born Kruger (Wicker Park, Inglourious Basterds, The Host) will first head to the south of France to film Maryland for director Alice Winocour, the helmer who made her debut two years ago with the Cannes entry Augustine. The film tracks an ex-soldier with PTSD who is hired to protect the wife and child of a wealthy Lebanese businessman while he’s out of town. Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts (Bullhead, Rust and Bone) will play the soldier. Dharamsala and Darius Films are producing.

Kruger will then head to the American southwest set of Sky to re-team with director Fabienne Berthaud after their 2006 film Frankie and 2010’s Lily Sometimes. The film tracks a woman’s reawakening through her solitary journey into foreign lands and will mark Kruger and Berthaud’s first English-language film together. Kruger next appears in theaters this month in the young Abe Lincoln biopic The Better Angels and stars next year opposite Russell Crowe in Gabriele Muccino’s Fathers and Daughters. She is repped by UTA and Untitled, Altitude Management, and UBBA in France. Schoenaerts will be seen next in Thomas Vinterberg’s Far From the Madding Crowd which Fox Searchlight will release in May. He is repped by CAA and UBBA in France.
