Aero: Newly Restored 'Godfather' Trilogy

Hollywood takes its business tips from Francis Ford Coppola’s Mafia saga. (The 3rd installment not so much.) So it’s a must-attend event (though not the premiere) for the American Cinematheque presenting the newly restored The Godfather trilogy in 35mm prints over three nights at the Aero Theatre February 27th through March 1st. The meticulous restoration by Paramount Pictures was overseen by Coppola himself. “The Trilogy underwent extensive frame-by-frame examination and restoration utilizing state-of-the-art digital technology in this historic preservation effort, which required more than a year to complete. Robert A. Harris of the Film Preserve supervised the restoration under the direction of Coppola and cinematographer Gordon Willis. Harris’ restoration credits include Lawrence Of Arabia, Spartacus, Vertigo, and Rear Window,” according to the announcement. The first pic, 1972’s The Godfather, plays the Aero on February 27th at 7:30 PM, 1974’s The Godfather, Part II on February 28th at 7:30 PM, and feel free to skip 1990’s The Godfather, Part III on March 1st at 7:30 PM (but I actually think it gets better with age…).
