‘True Detective’: Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn Confirmed As Season 2 Stars & Justin Lin As Director By HBO

HBO finally has officially confirmed the first new auspices for Season 2 of True Detective: cast members Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn and director Justin Lin, who is set to helm the first two episodes. We also have the first official logline: “Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

vincevaughnFarrell will play one of the three cops, Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vaughn is the career criminal, Frank Semyon, who in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner. One of the other two police officers, Paul Woodrugh, is expected to be played by Taylor Kitsch, while the third is the female lead, Ani Bezzerides.

The search for that female lead continues. According to sources, eight actresses were invited to read for creator Nic Pizzolatto on Thursday: Rosario Dawson, Kelly Reilly, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Abigail Spencer, Oona Chaplin, Jaimie Alexander and Brit Marling. I hear all but Reilly, who was in New York, made it (though some might have been eyed for another female role on the show). Rachel McAdams also continues to be mentioned, though she appears to have a scheduling conflict with a movie, with Keira Knightley‘s name also entering the mix. Filming on the eight-episode Season 2 is slated to begin this fall in California, where the story takes place.
