TNT Takes Social Experiment ‘Escape Your Life’; Couples Can Leave, But Never Return

With social experiments all the rage in the reality space, TNT has acquired Escape Your Life (working title) from Red Arrow International for the U.S. The format, which has not aired elsewhere, was created by Red Arrow’s Kinetic Content (The Taste, Married At First Sight). The show sees couples offered the opportunity to abandon their old lives and start again. Chris Coelen and Katie Griffin are exec producing for Kinetic with Henrik Pabst, Michael Peter Schmidt and Jan David Frouman exec producing for Red Arrow.

Described as a “groundbreaking” social experiment, Escape Your Life unfolds over a multi-episode arc that follows three couples who are each given the chance to begin afresh. The couples awaken in a completely new location and then have six weeks to find jobs, a place to live and to start their new lives. The format asks the question, “Is a new life truly the answer to all their problems?” At the end of the series, each couple will face a choice: go back to their old lives or stay in their new ones. If they choose to stay, they’ll be given money to help continue to build. But there’s one condition: they can never go back.

Fox’s big budget social experiment reality series Utopia, in which a group of everyday people is whisked to an isolated location for an entire year and challenged to create a new civilization, is currently the big dog in the space. Its ratings were down on the second Friday last week, but rose last Tuesday for the first time since the Sept 7 debut.
