The Voice is launching a mobile app to allow viewers to vote on contestants during show episodes, among other functions. The app is part of a broader three-year integration of sponsor Nissan into NBC’s hit singing competition as it heads into its seventh cycle. Nissan also will sponsor this cycle’s version of The Voice’s preshow “tailgate” event that provides fans behind-the-scenes looks at show preparations and was a big source of social-media buzz for the show in the spring.
“We really wanted to deliver an app that will bring fans closer than ever to the excitement of The Voice,” said Rob Hayes, EVP Digital Media at NBC Entertainment. “By using the app to vote during the show and support their favorite artists, viewers will be playing an active role in the outcome of each episode.”
The dedicated app mimics some of the show’s’ actual game-play dynamics during the live broadcast, allowing viewers to vote for singers, to “turn their chair” for a favorite artist or to see when other viewers are also backing that artist. It will also send tune-in reminders, make it easier to tweet directly to the show’s stars and even to buy songs. The app is available on the iTunes App Store and on Google Play.
