Rob Golenberg and Alon Aranya’s Scripted World Inks First-Look Deal With Fox 21

Rob Golenberg and Alon Aranya’s Scripted World is making a push into cable with a two-year, first-look deal at Fox 21, the cable division of 20th Century Fox TV.

scriptedworldlogo copy Veteran TV packaging agent Rob Golenberg and writer/producer Alon Aranya began working together in 2011 when Golenberg headed Gersh’s TV lit department and Aranya was a client. Since the two launched their production company Scripted World in late 2012, they have sold 22 projects to network and cable, focusing on adaptations of foreign scripted formats. Their success so far has been primarily on the network side where they have executive produced a total of 6 pilots and three series over the past three years, the majority based on formats. The series include dramas Red Widow and Betrayal on ABC and Hostages on CBS.

While formats have helped Scripted World build up its business, the company has been expanding into developing scripted shows based on original ideas of creators in the U.S. and overseas. For instance, the company has high-profile drama Project X set up at TNT. The political thriller produced by Greg Berlanti and Warner Horizon is based an original idea from Israel. “Rob and Alon have great creative instincts, and they’ve been incredibly prolific in identifying compelling formats and selling projects to the networks,” said Fox 21 president Bert Salke.

Golenberg and Salke’s relationship goes way back when Salke was a young executive at Fox and Golenberg a young agent. The two also worked together when Salke was a producer, and began discussing a potential deal as Golenberg and Aranya were launching Scripted World. “The first look cable deal with Fox 21 will take Scripted World’s business to the next level,” Golenberg said. “No other studio has the reach in the cable marketplace, and produces such a wide range of top-tier content.” Added Aranya, “Together with Scripted World’s vast international and domestic development slate and with the cable and SVOD markets growing larger by the day, a partnership with Fox 21 will enable Scripted World to broaden the pipeline of material, and talent we are working with.”
